* 세계 대학의 학계 순위 (Academic Ranking of World Universities)는 샹하이 쟈오퉁 대학이 하는 중국의 대규모 프로젝트로서, 중국 정부의 지원하에 세계의 대학에 대한 독립된 평가를 하고 있다. 세계의 500개 대학을 선정한다. 결과는 영국의 이코노미스트지에 종종 인용된다. 동료평가에 중점을 두는 타임즈 세계 대학 순위와는 달리 있는 그대로의 연구 데이터와 수상 실적만을 사용하여 객관적이라는 평가를 들으나 이 순위 역시 방법론에 대한 논쟁이 있다. 가장 근본적인 비판 중 하나는 과학쪽에 편향되어 있다는 것이다. 과학쪽 잡지인 사이언스지나 네이처지에 발표된 논문수, 노벨상과 필즈상 수상자 수가 포함되어 있다는 것이 그 증거다. 그리고 연구를 중심으로 하는 대규모 대학들에 맞추어져 있다는 평을 듣는다.

 위는 순위 설명이고, 현재 이것이 가장 공신력있는 세계 대학 순위 TOP100이다.

통칭 한국에서 SKY로 불리는 대학들은 몇위일까? 100위안에서 태극기는 찾아 볼수 없다. 서울대는 한국의 1위로 101-150위권 연세대, 고려대, KAIST는 201-300위권이다.

한국의 하늘(SKY)은 참으로 낮은가보다. ㅎㅎㅎ

대학진학률은 세계2위인 반면 교육의 질은 이모양 이꼴이다. 고등학교 학문은 인간이 지금까지 이루어 놓은 학문들 중 필수인 학문들 즉, 기초가 되는 뿌리를 잡는 것이고, 대학공부는 그 뿌리를 바탕으로 하나의 분야를 정해서 가지를 쳐나가는 것과 같다고 생각한다. 현재 한국의 교육은 뿌리 심는데만 혈안이 되있는 것 같다. 가지를 뻗고 열매 맺는 것 또한더욱 더 중요한 법인데 말이다. 이런 좋은 열매를 맺으려면 자기가 구체적인 꿈을 갖고 스스로 동기를 부여해서 공부하는 습관이 있어야 한다. 하지만 현재의 초중고 12년의 교육제도와 부모님의 교육방식에서 그런 습관을 갖기란. 로또맞을 확률보다 낮아보인다.

 내가 다닌 대학도 국립대라서 교수진도 좋았고 시설도 나쁘지 않았다. 문제는 학생들 자신이었다. 학업에 대한 열정도 없고, 꿈도 없다. 취업이라도 걱정하면 다행이다. (본인도 그랬다.) 하나 있다면 12년동안 길들여진 학점에대한 열정. 출석에 대한 열정. ㅎㅎㅎ

학점을 받기위한 공부, 일자리를 구하기 위해 억지로 하는 공부. 전혀 즐겁지 않다.

머리속에 오래남지도 않는다.

문제의 본질에 대한 혁신적인 개선이 필요하다.

앞으로 사랑스런 우리의 자녀들이 이러한 전처를 답습하지 않도록 하려면 우리가 어떻게 할것인가 골똘히 생각하고 또 생각해야 한다.

이것이 대통령을 누굴 뽑을까, 교육부장관, 교육감이 누가되느냐 보다 더 중요하다고 본다.
